Future: The Digital World
"I don't care if she was never supposed
to exist," TK shook his head, his brows knit in determination. "Suri
is back there some time in the past fighting the same guy who killed my son and
I'm not going to stand here and feel sorry for myself when she needs me!
Whether she was supposed to be born or not doesn't change the fact that she is
my child and that I love her!" TK came closer to the Future Guardian,
stepping out of the circle of his friends and their digimon. "Forget
all about what was supposed to happen," he told them. "The
future is now. It's what we make it." He turned to face the
sphere of light. "And right now I want to make it so that Suri is
back in my arms again." Now he pointed to the sky. "Take
me to her."
The Future Guardian floated to a higher position, making Tsuriai's family and their digimon partners crane their necks to look up at her. Her body started to glow brighter. Beams of light shot forth from the sphere. "Very well," her voice echoed.
The men brought their arms up, shielding their eyes from the increasingly intense light.
"But the journey will be harsh," she warned them. "Time travel is not exact, and for each of you that I bring with me, the harder it will be for me to pinpoint the days that Tsuriai is in the Digital World of the past."
"Oh..." everyone breathed.
"And without a target anchor here in the future," the Internet Guardian went on. "It will be even more difficult to bring you all back to this point in the future."
Tai balled his fist tightly. "You're saying one of us has to stay," he deduced.
"That would be wise," the Future Guardian replied. "So that I may return all of you when and where you belong."
Suddenly, an echoing voice boomed through the
lifeless Digital World. "I'll stay."
Everyone turned around and took in the image of a red-headed man in the dark, dead sky. "Izzy?" they all asked at once.
"Kabuterimon and I can stay here so that the Future Guardian has an anchor to hold onto," he continued. "And we can watch things here while you're gone."
TK walked toward the floating image. "Izzy..."
"Go on," Izzy encouraged the blonde man. "What good will it be to save Suri when you can't even return to the future?"
TK's eyes started to water a little bit, but he quickly blinked them away. With a single nod, he acknowledged his friend's willingness to be left behind. "Right," TK understood. Then, before turning around, he said, "Thanks, Izzy."
Suddenly, Joe stood up, kicking his chair behind him. "Well, I'm going," he announced. The blue-haired doctor lifted his arm, flashing his digivice at the screen of Tsuriai's computer. In a instant, his body was fragmented and downloaded into the Digital World.
"Joe!" Ikkakumon smiled. It was good to have his human partner by his side once again.
"Alright!" Tai stepped forward. "Let's go find Suri!"
"And bring her home!" Matt added.
The Future Guardian shimmered with a sparkling energy. Streams of light blasted from her spherical form, their reach extending toward the ground, the horizon, and the sky. Slowly, the dark void above them started to rumble and roll. It was becoming just as stormy as it had been when the Internet Guardian came to the Digital World of the future.
"Wait!" Izzy yelled over the thundering noise. "I have an idea!"
The men turned around, gusts of wind tossing their hair.
"Davis," the red-headed man called
out. "TK. Do you guys still have your D-Terminals?"
The two men nodded, one of them pulling their special device from his jacket pocket. "Right here," Davis answered.
"Great!" Izzy nodded. "We can use those to keep in touch," he explained. "Theoretically, I should be able to receive anything you send to me with them."
Davis gave a single nod. "Got it!"
"Okay!" Greymon yelled over the roar of the sky as it ripped open. "Get ready guys!"
The Future Guardian suddenly became blindingly bright. "Come into my light," she instructed the humans and their digimon. "And brace yourselves." One by one, a Champion-level digital monster stepped up behind their human partner, laying their arms and paws around them for protection. All of a sudden, lightning cracked through the liquid sky, and a hole opened up. The Future Guardian called upon all the strength she could muster, straining and struggling as she tried to carry her new companions. Come on, she coached herself. You can't give up. Tsuriai is counting on you!
"Huh?" Garurumon swung his head from side to side.
The other digimon and the humans they held couldn't believe what was happening to them, either. Slowly, steadily, each digital monster lifted off the ground and started to float upward.
The Future Guardian trudged forward, her sights set on the portal that would lead her back to the great battle between the Messiah and Negabyte. "Don't lose hope," she repeated Ryoichi's last words to her. "Good will eventually persevere..."
Kabuterimon's wings buzzed as he hovered beside Izzy's projected image in the sky. "They're almost through," the insect digimon announced.
"You can do it, guys," Izzy cheered
them on, yelling so that they could hear him. "Bring Suri home!"
And then, with a flash, the Digi-Destined, their digimon, and the Future Guardian vanished. The blank sky of the war-torn Digital World returned to its normal state.
Izzy stared out at the wasteland, worried for his friends and the trouble they were throwing themselves into. Quietly, his voice soft and sad, he said again, "You can do it, guys."
