Present: The Defragmented Mountains
Cody stopped in his tracks,
cradling a severely injured Tsuriai in his arms. When Ryoichi's digital
ghost left him, he scooped the blonde girl up and started to trudge his way back
to where the other humans were, climbing the precarious hillside while she lay limply
in his arms. Time and again, she fell in and out of consciousness.
She managed to get one or two words out, maybe even open her eyes once or twice,
but, for the most part, she was out of it. The girl couldn't even hold her
own head up. And as Cody held her, her arms and legs dangled at her side,
lifeless.
But, while he trekked up the defragmented mountain, he was suddenly distracted by a bright light in the sky. At first he thought it was some kind of star, but, after a closer look, he realized that it was something else, entirely. "Oh!" he gasped. His grim countenance was suddenly replaced by a smile and a glimmer of hope. "It's Veric!" he cheered. The boy nudged the arm Tsuriai leaned on, trying to jostle her awake. "Suri!" he called to her, excited. "Look! It's Veric!"
But the girl didn't move except for the slow rise and fall of her chest and a weak moan. It was his only indication that she was breathing. The smile was quickly wiped off Cody's face. "Suri..." He was so worried about her. And there was nothing he could do except bring her back to her father. Cody had a promise to keep. He was going to make sure Tsuriai finally made it home.
With this in mind, the green-eyed boy started forth once again.
Suddenly, a blast exploded overhead.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Look!"
Kari pointed up to the early morning sky. "It's HeraldAngemon!"
Everyone watched as the Mega-level digimon let loose his special attack with a
fury unequaled by anything they had ever witnessed before.
The Future Guardian's light burned bright around her magical human body. "Ryo did it!" she cheered, ecstatic. "He helped HeraldAngemon!"
The angel digimon braced himself in the air, sending his pulsating energy of harmony into the Scepter of Hope. A lavender light pierced through the sky and struck the Talisman of Light, where the attack was transformed into millions of crystal daggers. With the power from the Crests of Hope, Light, Harmony, and Perseverance, the sky lit up.
"AAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!"
OmniNegabyte belted out a horrid scream. The monster raised the one arm he
had left to shield his face, but it wasn't enough. Fire-hot shards of
crystals charged with the energies of goodness hailed down upon him, slicing up
his skin and stabbing his body and face.
Laying against the rocky
mountainside, a handful of exhausted digimon looked on at the miraculous
sight. Magnadramon breathed heavily, still trying to catch her
breath. But she cheered her friend on anyway. "Go HeraldAngemon...!"
Shakkoumon was right beside her, his metal body beaten and dented. "Don't quit...!"
Veric hovered in the sky, his eyes focused on nothing else but the Talisman of Light. His energy poured from him, surging as it traveled through the Scepter of Hope and into the talisman that the ghosts of Ryoichi and his digimon had charged with their data. By doing so, they permitted the angel digimon to save his own energy, which had already been augmented with the loading of Chulak's, Centaurumon's, and Leomon's unreconfigured data. But the power wasn't limitless. Even with all the extra energy, Veric could feel his strength slipping away from him as the seconds wore on. But he could care less. HeraldAngemon gave himself completely to this last attack. He was going to destroy Negabyte even if it meant he had to be deleted as well.
"Huh?"
OmniNegabyte shot his orange eyes open. He could feel that his enemy's
attack was weakening exponentially. "Hah!" the monster smirked,
a bit of a growl escaping his throat. "I knew that worthless digimon
didn't have it in him." The mutated creature narrowed his eyes and
began to move forward.
"Oh, no!" the young TK ran to the edge of the floating rock he and the other humans had been standing on. "HeraldAngemon is getting weaker and OmniNegabyte is going after him!" The blonde boy pointed up at the sky at an angel whose attack was diminishing rapidly. The beam of lavender light was thinning and fewer crystals appeared, none of them glowing anymore. And, slowly, the digimon sunk through the dawn sky.
Tsuriai's father stepped forward, his angel-blue eyes set. With all his might, he called out to his daughter's digimon partner. "VERIC!" The man could feel his heart pounding in his chest. "HANG IN THERE!" Then he balled his fist. "Please," he prayed. "Let me help him."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cody froze for a second. Someone was shouting. "Was that Suri's dad?!" the dark-haired boy looked around him, hearing a man's voice ring against the rocky mountainside. And then, unexpectedly, something near him started beeping and whining in an electronic frenzy. Cody spotted it right away. "Suri's digivice!" his eyes shot wide open. The modified wrist watch had come alive for no apparent reason just after the TK from the future started yelling.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A
man's voice caught HeraldAngemon's attention. "Mr. Takaishi..."
he realized. The angel's body sunk in the air, his body shaking as he
tried to control his attack. The last of his energy was passing from him to the scepter, but he strained to listen to Tsuriai's father anyway.
"USE ME, VERIC!" the man cried. "LET ME HELP YOU!"
"What?!" HeraldAngemon's jaw dropped. "Use him?!" But before he could even register what Mr. Takaishi was trying to tell him, a sudden surge of power gripped him. "Oh!" Veric sucked in his breath, surprised.
The Future Guardian looked ahead. "It's working!" she announced. In the distance, the angel of harmony was beginning to glow again.
"YES!!!" Tsuriai's father pumped his arm into the air. "YOU CAN DO IT, VERIC! DON'T GIVE UP!"
HeraldAngemon didn't know what was happening, but he could care less. All he knew was that, somehow, someway, he was receiving energy from a new source. And it was power he needed badly. The angel digimon focused his eyes forward, glaring at the monster just in front of him. OmniNegabyte was beaten and tired, frothing at the mouth and bleeding from wounds. But he was still coming for him. "Not anymore," Veric growled. Then, with a guttural yell, the angel gripped the scepter even tighter, throwing all the energy he had into it. "RAAAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!"
"AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" OmniNegabyte screamed in utter pain. His body burned with the razor-sharp crystals that bore into him. "How...?" He couldn't figure out what just happened. Somehow, the weakening digimon had found more power. And Veric was relentless. The energized hailstorm pounded on the evil monster without mercy. And then, the unthinkable happened.
"Oh!" Kari gasped, bringing both hands up to her face in complete shock. "Look!"
The
young TK couldn't believe it either. "He's falling apart!"
And it was true. While HeraldAngemon hovered in the early morning sky, blasting the power of harmony at the evil monster, OmniNegabyte's body began to fall to pieces, his skin melting as if acid had touched it. "NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!" Negabyte cried, his voice choked and muddled. A bright, fierce light pierced through his cracking skin from the inside.
HeraldAngemon glared down at the dying OmniNegabyte. "Never again will you harm the ones I love!" And then, with the last drops of power he had left, Veric delivered the last blow. "RAAAGH!"
**Boom!**
A blast of light consumed what was left of OmniNegabyte, burning any and all of his data into cinder. The sun rose over the tops of the defragmented mountains, chasing all darkness away. Nothing was left of the mutated creature who had traveled across time and mercilessly killed innocent creatures from various dimensions just to take control of the Digital Universe. Many times he evaded those who fought on the side of light. But today, this miraculous day, the morning sun rose and cast out the darkness. Negabyte was no more.
